Bishop’s Office
To Teach, Shepherd, and Serve the People of God
Bishop Peter Baldacchino leads the Diocese of Las Cruces as its third bishop, guiding the Catholic community of southern New Mexico with faith, humility, and joy.
The bishop’s office serves as the spiritual and administrative center of the diocese, guiding parishes, schools, and ministries in their shared mission to proclaim the Gospel.
From supporting pastors and parish leaders to coordinating diocesan initiatives, the bishop’s office works to strengthen unity, provide resources, and ensure that every community has what it needs to live and grow in the Catholic faith.
In his ministry, the bishop fulfills three essential responsibilities entrusted to him:
To Teach
As the diocese’s chief teacher, the bishop ensures the Gospel is clearly and faithfully shared through preaching, formation, and evangelization, working with clergy, educators, and lay leaders to carry this mission into every community.
To Govern
The bishop guides the diocese’s spiritual and practical life, fostering vocations, supporting parishes, and stewarding resources, while upholding justice, unity, and faithful governance in communion with the Church.
To Sanctify
The bishop oversees the sacramental life of the diocese, ordaining clergy, conferring Confirmation, and ensuring the sacraments are celebrated reverently, all to draw the faithful into deeper communion with Christ, the true Shepherd.
